From Florida's Turnpike Take Okeechobee Blvd. exit East to Military Trail, then go South on Military Trail 1 1/4 miles to Mounts Botanical Garden (1/4 mile South of Belvedere on your right, across from Palm Beach International Airport).

From I-95 Take Southern Blvd. exit West to Military Trail, then go North on Military Trail 1/2 mile to Mounts Botanical Garden (on your left, across from Palm Beach International Airport).

2.  Use play therapy to assess and work with parents’ resistance to change.

3.  Use play therapy to help parents learn new parenting styles.

4.  Teach play therapy communication skills to help parents improve relationships with children.

 

Teaching Therapeutic Play Skills to Parents: Filial Therapy          February 24, 2008

    Theory and skills of helping parents to become part of the solution to their child’s problems.

 Learning objectives: Following the workshop participants should be able to:    
1.  Explain the role of play in developing a positive relationship between parent and child.

2.  Demonstrate teaching basic filial therapy skills to parents including reflective listening, 

 encouragement, therapeutic limit setting and the “do’s and don’ts” of special play times.

3.  Provide constructive feedback to facilitate parent skill development.

4.  Help parents understand the themes and issues demonstrated in their children’s play.

 

Healing Trauma: Play Therapy and EMDR                                    March 15, 2008
Presenter: Roxanne Grobbel JD, LCSW
Observing and treating the underlying issues revealed in the child’s play.

 Learning Objectives:  Following the workshop participants should be able to:

1.     Understand trauma and its affect on children and how it may be exhibited in their behavior

2.    Identify how trauma or loss can result in problem behaviors/symptoms

3.    Apply play therapy to help children work through trauma

4.    Understand how EMDR works with play to reprocess dysfunctional traumatic memories.   

        (Note: Using EMDR requires specific training which will not be given in this workshop)

Facilitating child-centered play therapy to heal both individual and social interaction issues.


Learning Objectives:  Following the workshop participants should be able to:

1.   Provide free and protected space for individual work within the group play therapy context.

2.     Relate to the child's perspective by observing play and non-verbal  behaviors.

3.     Use play therapy listening/ responding skills to create relationship, communication, and trust.

4.   Use play therapy techniques to accept and manage children’s difficult feelings and behaviors.

 

Play Therapy for Children with Disorders of Sensory Integration (DSI)     April 12, 2008

Exercises and activities engage participants in this multi-sensory learning experience.

 Learning Objectives – In this workshop participants will learn:

1.  To assess and diagnose children with disorders of sensory integration.

2.  To more accurately interpret behavioral symptoms in light of sensory issues.

3.  How to modify the treatment environment to accommodate children with DSI.

4.  How to modify play therapy strategies and techniques to accommodate children with DSI.

 

Sandplay–Nature Play Therapy: From Box to Beach- Theory and Experience    April 13, 2008

 Experiential creative play at the beach interspersed with guided understanding of the sandplay process and product. 

 

Learning Objectives:  In this workshop participants will learn:

1. The dos and don’ts of being the ‘witness’ as clients build scenes in the sand.

2. The elements involved in understanding symbolic meanings in sand tray scenes.

3. Ways to incorporate non-traditional elements and spaces into play therapy sessions. 

4.  How to organize and facilitate group sandplay therapy sessions.

 

Reflective Supervision: Understanding Play Therapy from the Inside      May 16, 2008

Relationship -based process of creating a sense of safety, cultural caring and support for supervisees.

  1. Understand the importance of self-awareness and reflection in relationship based work.
  2. Engage in reflective practices to help inform their work, relationships and interventions.
  3. Describe the science underlying reflective supervision’s effectiveness.
  4. Understand the case consultation model for reflective supervision.

 

Culturally Sensitive Play Therapy: Entering the Child’s World                 May 17, 2008

Identify theories and techniques for using child-centered play therapy to bridge cultures. 

 Learning objectives: Following the workshop participants should be able to:

  1. Understand how to enter the child’s world without judgment
  2. Use child centered play therapy to relate to diverse children and their cultures
  3. Assist families of all cultures to relate to their children within their own value system
  4. Learn the value orientation of the families and cultures they work with
